About the Book
Soil fertility and nutrient management are foundational pillars of sustainable agriculture, directly influencing crop productivity, soil health, and environmental integrity. With the continuous intensification of farming systems, it has become imperative to understand soil nutrient dynamics and adopt balanced, integrated nutrient management practices. This book, Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management, is designed in alignment with the ICAR 6th Deans’ Committee Report to serve as a comprehensive academic resource for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, educators, and extension professionals in agricultural sciences.
The book comprises 16 systematically structured chapters that cover a broad range of topics—from the fundamentals of soil fertility and nutrient classification to the complexities of nutrient cycling, deficiency diagnosis, and the role of both organic and inorganic fertilizers. Special attention is given to nutrient transformation processes, transport mechanisms, and the integration of organic manures, green manuring, vermicomposting, and biofertilizers in sustainable farming practices. Additionally, the book provides detailed insights into the preparation, composition, and applications of various fertilizers, including nitrogenous, phosphatic, and potassic types.
