Education is society's mirror, reflecting its values, priorities, and aspirations, and, at the same time, determining the destiny of people and communities. Looking to 2040, the learning landscape is on the verge of fundamental change that will be driven by innovation in technology, global mobility, environmental emergencies, and the changing ethical concerns of the posthuman world. Schools, long understood as institutions for knowledge transmission, are now confronted with questions that transcend academics: What does it mean to educate humans in an age of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and ecological uncertainty? How can education cultivate ethical reasoning, empathy, and civic responsibility alongside technical competence? These questions highlight the imperative to reimagine schooling not just as preparation for labor but as a comprehensive practice to support human flourishing, social justice, and planetary stewardship.
