About the Book

The book “Fundamentals of Genetics” is designed in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by the ICAR 6th Deans’ Committee Report. It serves as a foundational resource for undergraduate students of agriculture and allied sciences. The book provides a systematic and comprehensive understanding of classical and molecular genetics, starting from Mendelian principles to advanced gene concepts and molecular mechanisms. Each chapter in this book covers key concepts including heredity, cell division, gene interactions, mutations, genetic mapping, and the structure, replication, and expression of genetic material. Special emphasis has been placed on problem-solving techniques such as Chi-square applications and genetic analysis, which are critical in practical learning.
