About the Book

In This book examines India's transformation, over little more than a decade, from a country in which a majority of adults lacked any formal financial account to one that operates the world's largest real-time digital payment system by transaction volume. That transformation did not occur through a single policy or a single technology. It occurred through the deliberate, sequenced construction of an interlocking architecture: universal bank account access, national digital identity and connectivity infrastructure, an interoperable payment interface, and the regulatory and institutional foundations required to sustain all three, layered with
sustained attention to financial literacy, women's economic participation, small enterprise credit, and the specific needs of rural India. This book's twelve chapters follow that architecture from its conceptual foundations through its institutional detail to its unfinished agenda. Chapter 1 establishes the conceptual and historical framework. Chapters 2 through 5 examine the account, connectivity, payment, and institutional layers built primarily between 2014 and the present. Chapters 6 through 10 examine financial literacy, women's empowerment, MSME finance, the FinTech ecosystem, and rural financial inclusion as the human capital, population
specific, and sectoral dimensions upon which that infrastructure's ultimate effectiveness depends. Chapters 11 and 12 situate this achievement within India's Sustainable Development Goals commitments and its longer-term Viksit Bharat 2047 ambitions.

Usha Chahal is a distinguished academician and researcher with over 26 years of teaching experience in the fields of Commerce and Management. She is currently serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce and Management at Acharya Raghuveer Government Post Graduate College, Ambala Cantt., Haryana. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, completed her M.Phil. from Kurukshetra University, obtained her M.Com. from Guru Nanak Dev University, and qualified the UGC-NET examination in 1998. Dr. Chahal has published more than 40 research papers, articles, and book chapters in reputed national and international journals. She has actively participated in over 60 seminars, workshops, and conferences and has
presented her research at the European Business Research Conference organized by Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom. She has served on editorial boards, organizing committees, and as a research mentor. Her sustained contributions to teaching, research, academic leadership, and professional development have earned her recognition as a committed educator and an accomplished scholar in higher education.

Anshu

Anshu is a distinguished academician, researcher, author, and mentor with over 23 years of teaching experience and two years of corporate exposure in the fields of Management, Commerce, Finance, and Human Resource Management. She is currently serving as Professor and Guide in the Faculty of Management & Commerce at Baba Mastnath University, Rohtak, Haryana. She holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Management, an MBA with dual specialization in Finance and Human Resource Management, M.Com., PGDCA, and B.Ed., and is UGC-NET and STAT qualified. Dr. Anshu has published more than 41 research papers in reputed national and international journals, authored over 10 book chapters, and published or edited 5 academic books. She has presented and
chaired research papers at more than 60 national and international conferences. Her scholarly contributions have been recognized with the Green ThinkerZ International Academic Excellence Award and National Academic Excellence Award (2021–2022).
